J.W. Munday & Associates was launched in the UK at the beginning of 1999 and rapidly became one of the main suppliers of forensic science expertise in fires, explosions and related incidents to both private and public sector clients. Within four years we were providing investigation and consultancy services to over thirty legal practices, ten police forces and the Crown Prosecution Service, most of the major insurers, and several private firms and local authority departments in the UK alone. We are approved by the Home Office National Crime Faculty and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. We also carried out work for a number of European and Far Eastern clients. Through our allied practice Gardiner Associates (see below) we were involved in training around 80% of the UK fire services and over 50% of UK police forces in fire investigation-related matters. We remain involved in UK and overseas training as part of the GA team.
J.W. Munday & Associates (Australasia) Pty Ltd was registered in January 2003 and restructured to JW Munday & Associates in 2007. The objectives remain similar to the original UK concept but targeted on Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region. We aim to provide a reliable source of high quality, impartial and timely expertise in all matters pertaining to the investigation of fires, dispersed-phase explosions and other combustion related incidents (such as carbon monoxide poisoning). This service will be available to all bona-fide investigators (public and private sector), legal and insurance professionals and companies carrying out internal investigations. We may also accept instructions from private individuals under some circumstances.
We have a clearly defined ethical policy, based around our own dedication to the concept of impartial and objective expert scientific evidence and supported by the professional membership requirements of the Forensic Science Society and the Institution of Fire Engineers. Because of this commitment to an impartial and objective approach, we are happy to be instructed on behalf of any of the parties in a dispute on the strict understanding that we will not compromise our professional standards nor modify our opinions to suit a client's position.
We also strive to uphold all the privacy and confidentiality requirements placed upon us, both by legal and contractual considerations. Because of the nature of our work, clients should be aware that Courts may sometimes insist upon the release or publication of information which would otherwise require the express consent of the individual concerned.
